Resume
Axis of Hope is dedicated to improving the practice of international conflict analysis, management and prevention in public and private elementary, middle and high schools worldwide. It maintains a strong commitment to helping young people in their formative years of life to understand conflict and to develop conflict analysis, management and prevention skills through hands-on practice. We specialize in the study of geo-political issues (Palestinian-Israeli; Rwanda) and we have are continuing to develop expertise in health and safety issues, including the AIDS pandemic, the war in Iraq and environmental issues worldwide.

What We Do
Since January, 2002, Axis of Hope has provided training and facilitation services to a broad spectrum of regional, national and international student groups, at such schools as Phillips Academy (Andover, MA); and Green Hills Academy (Kigali, Rwanda). Our unique program focuses on the students and the educators:

Students
1. Using a unique combination of content and activities, this program's materials enable students to learn about conflict in ways that enliven the imagination, awaken moral reasoning, and impart social and civic skills that they can use throughout their lives. Through International conflict prevention activities, Students will obtain important skills that will better prepare them for future academic and social challenges, as well as the necessity of lifelong learning and being a responsible world citizen.

Educators
2. The Seminars provide an opportunity for educators to continue their lifelong learning and growth, which will benefit both them and their students. Through participation in the seminars they will receive training about culture, religion, politics, ethics and intergroup conflict, and be provided with extensive supplementary materials and resources for use in their classrooms.

Case Studies A talented Axis of Hope case study development team brings to the organization a wide variety of expertise: international conflict analysis, management and prevention, business, law, political science, education. This innovative report begins by presenting a synopsis of a critical ongoing International Conflict. The following sections detail the history of the area in question, as well as the religious, social, cultural, and economic factors that are integral to the analysis of the conflict. The Case study also provides profiles of the groups and players on all sides of the issue. The Case Studies when combined with our seminar provides an interactive diplomatic experience.
Case Studies

Seminars

A two or three day Axis of Hope seminar on International conflict analysis, management and prevention is an "Intellectual Outward Bound". The components to a typical seminar include:

  • The distribution of the Case Study and the discussion on the background of the conflict
  • The forming and arranging of students into groups where each group represents a real political party or organization involved in the actual geopolitical conflict
  • Each group then receives a confidential list of absolutes that they must address and resolve during the negotiations
  • The groups then negotiate with each other to find a resolution to the conflict. However the moderator at various times will introduce a breaking development that must be addressed and will change the course of the negotiations. Other surprises and changes will occur throughout the seminar.
  • At the end of the seminar all of the participants will collectively and individually reflect on how they felt and what they learned through the course of the negotiations. As a group of future leaders they will examine how to prevent future global conflict.
