My end goal, put very simply, is to improve the 'GQ'- or global quotient- of youth around the world, so that they may become better, more thoughtful and humble global citizens.                         "

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Teacher Training Workshops

Axis of Hope provides instructors academically rigorous hands-on training for teaching about history and international conflict resolution, and provides extensive curriculum materials and resources.

Participants explore the many facets of a conflict that may be half a world away. These exercises enable you to practice negotiating and to confront geo-political conflict head-on, which can then be implemented in your own school.

Components of a Teacher Training Workshop

  • Review and discussion of the case study.
  • Instruction in conflict analysis, management and prevention.
    • Explanation of the difference between “raw” and “refined” diplomacy.
  • Division into groups to play specific sides within the case study.
    • Negotiation exercises which divide groups into “negotiation pods” in an attempt to find a possible resolution to special issues including security, education, health care and more.
  • Reflection and debriefing at the end of the workshop.
    • Reflections may include writing an op-ed article about the conflict together for a local newspaper, writing a song about the conflict, or participating in a service learning exercise in the school’s local-area.
