PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Workshops and Seminars include:
- Teacher-training workshops on-site or online
- Axis of Hope Instructor training at
- Continuing education seminars around the U.S.
- Annual Conference at
- Summer Abroad programs
Axis of Hope provides instructors academically rigorous hands-on train- ing for teaching about history and international conflict resolution, and provides extensive curriculum materials and resources.
As long as the root causes of a conflict linger or memories of it have yet to heal, the potential for divergence, discord, tensions, clashes or renewed all-out conflict remains real.
Participants explore the many facets of a conflict that may be half a world away.
These exercises enable you to practice negotiating and to confront geo-political
conflict head-on, as you practice the art of negotiation and compromise first- hand.

Components of a typical one, two, or three-day workshop or seminar are well- refined steps meant to teach the art of negotiation effectively:
- Review and discussion of the case study
- Instruction in conflict analysis, management and prevention. Explanation of the difference between “raw” and “refined” diplomacy;
- Division into groups to play specific sides within the case study; Negotiation exercises in teams consisting of no more than 2 groups in each “negotiation pod”, in an attempt to find a possible resolution to special issues including security, education, health care and more;
- Reflection and debriefing at the end of the workshop, including, for example, writing an op-ed article about the conflict together for a local newspaper, writ- ing a song together about the conflict, or participating in a service learning exercise in the school’s local-area where children from the area of conflict are living.
