At both public and independent high schools, Axis of Hope builds on the same workshop concepts used at the middle school level while expanding on the depth and complexity of the work.
However, as high school students' lives are becoming increasingly complex, our workshop methods are adapted to address all areas of conflict in the lives of teenagers, including issues of sex, drugs, gang violence, bullying, and domestic problems.
High-school workshops also offer students a glimpse into international relations, law and diplomacy, fields of study that they may wish to pursue eventually in college but to which they otherwise may not have had exposure.
"Not only did we learn about similarities between one another; we also took a real- life issue and tried to find a solution. We got to see how tough it is to please people who don't want help."
Student participant / EMK Academy for Health Careers, Boston
"Learning that with conflict there are always two sides and the fact that "a person has two ears and only one mouth, so they should listen twice as much as they talk" was something that I never realized. Axis of Hope has broadened my mind to what is really important. It has shown that there is a world out there that is suffering and that we need to act now to help."
